Currently, I only do therapy online.
As we move into the era of online everything, research has demonstrated that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy and it really depends on the preference of the therapist and client. I have been practicing online since 2020 and I have found great value in the flexibility it gives (you don't have to travel to an office!) and you can have therapy in whichever place is most comfortable for you. I have had people take walks, be in the car, or lounge on their sofa at home. It allows me to see clients from all over California, Nevada & Arizona. The one requirement is a stable internet connection so there isn't an interruption in the flow of therapy.
I work in a private office in my home and everything is kept under (electronic) lock and key.
I also love to see all the pets! Cats seem to love it when I have you meditate.
I work with a company called Headway. They do the paperwork regarding insurance so I don't have to. Please feel free to ask me more questions about this process!
$150, but ask me about sliding scale options.
I use an online program called Simple Practice. Through there I will ask that you input a credit, debit or HSA card which Simple Practice will charge after each session
When you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment or no-show, I maintain right to charge the amount of the session cost (this includes insurance).
The therapeutic relationship is an essential part of psychotherapy. Goodness of fit refers to the fit and compatibility between the client and therapist. Not all therapists are suited to all clients, and that is OKAY.
Different people respond differently to different therapists' styles, personality, and approaches. When the fit is good, outcomes may be better than when the fit is less good. It's also likely to be more satisfying for both you and the therapist.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you would like to see if we'd be a good fit. I'd recommend:
"How successful have you been with treating my problem? What have those changes looked like?"
"What is your process or plan when clients aren't making progress?"
"What are your strengths and limitations as a counselor?
"What is your general philosophy and approach to helping? Are you more directive or more guiding?"
"Have you been in therapy yourself? How recently?"
"How do you set up counseling goals? What are they like? What is success for you?"
"What is typical session like? How long are the sessions?"
"What kind of homework/reading do you give patients?"
12-100+, although I find myself working best with those 16-60
Yes I am!
I understand the unique issues and risks individuals face in a world that isn’t supportive of sexual and gender identities marginal to dominant culture. I’ve been privileged to work with a myriad of people from diverse histories, genders and sexualities who have found healing from systemic oppression and trauma to embrace their authentic selves and thrive.
Because I live in a small town, it is common to run into each other from time to time. Due to privacy I will never approach you, say hi or even wave on my own volition. So if I ignore you, I'm not trying to be rude!
It is my policy that you will take the lead on how you would like to handle it. So if you wave, I will wave back. If you come up and say hi, I will be happy to say hi back. If you would like to introduce yourself to whomever I'm with, I will introduce that person. But its up to you at that point and I will never say that you are a client.
